Suretap, a leader in open digital wallet technology, today announced the appointment of Almis Ledas, an accomplished executive in the Canadian mobility and mobile payments ecosystem, as its new president. Ledas previously held senior management positions with Bell Mobility and currently serves as the chief operating officer of EnStream, Canada’s mobile payments hub connecting mobile network operators and financial institutions.
Ledas replaces Jeppe Dorff, who helped develop and lead suretapTM since its inception. Dorff is leaving suretapTM to take an executive product development position with a global mobile communications and financial services company. Earlier this year, suretapTM launched its new open digital wallet with support from leading mobile operators, financial institutions and retailers. In the past five months, some 500,000 Canadians have downloaded the new app.
“This is an exciting time for Canada’s mobile payments ecosystem and for consumers who want the convenience, security and financial advantages of an open digital wallet,” said Ledas. suretapTM is playing an important role in defining and realizing the value of mobile wallet technology in the Canadian market, and I look forward to being part of this great success.”
Ledas will also continue to serve as COO of EnStream, an enabling technology partner to suretapTM. Both suretapTM and EnStream play significant roles in Canada’s open mobile wallet and payments ecosystem. Canada’s three largest mobile operators, Rogers Communications, Bell Mobility and TELUS, jointly own both companies.
